![]() ![]() ![]() When Rowena first arrives back at the MacLawry castle, she is surprised to discover that her feelings for Lachlan truly have dissipated she is able to greet him as a peer and then remove herself to hang out with her cool new London friends. Of course, her brothers rush down to London to bring her back, but it’s only after 3 months, a wildly successful first Season, and with an entourage of fine London friends and potential paramours that Rowena deigns to come back. Though he is kind to Rowena, Lachlan firmly rebuffs her every advance, and Rowena finally snaps and flounces off to London for her debut Season and to put Lachlan MacTier as far behind her as possible. Rowena spends the first 18 years of her life pining after Lachlan, who is eight years her senior and finds her frequent, vigorous and generally quite childish attempts to win him over mildly annoying. Rowena MacLawry was raised in the highlands of 19 th century Scotland by her three older brothers, Arryn, Munroe, and The MacLawry, Ranulf, clan chief from age 15 when their parents died, aided by their best friend and MacLawry chieftan Lachlan MacTier. ![]() Perhaps I set the bar too low, but terrible title notwithstanding, this novel was a fantastic romantic read from start to finish. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a good old-fashioned Regency romance, and Mad, Bad and Dangerous in Plaid by Suzanne Enoch has the added bonus of also being set in Scotland, so I picked it up hoping for decent but preparing for terrible. ![]()
